Superintendent's Message for May 2023

Hello Charger Nation

Well  - this school year is wrapping up at a lightning pace.  I appreciate everyone’s patience with the storms this spring and the rescheduling of events that have taken place.  I also want to take this time to publicly thank the parents and students involved in our soccer and track sports.  I realize moving these events to alternate locations to allow the work to bring on Reynolds Field was not ideal.  Your willingness to support the administration and the School Board’s decision has been impressive.  Thank you for working with Mr. Milledge and for realizing this was for the betterment of the district in the long run.  This time next year will show the benefits of this happening.  Thank you very much for your support!

We will celebrate the hard work of our seniors on May 14th with their graduation ceremony. We are very proud of their accomplishments and the commitment they have displayed to make this happen.  Thanks to their parents and family members for supporting them on their journey. We wish them luck as they pursue their dreams and goals moving forward.

Columbus Principal Jayme Braida and her staff made some changes to how Kindergarten Round-up took place this year.  Students from Chariton Preschool and Chariton Headstart were brought to our school with their current teachers for a tour. Ms. Braida reported that this new format would ensure parents will not need to take off work to attend roundup and current kindergarten students will not lose a day of instruction. A Welcome for parents/guardians will also be held closer to the start of the 2023-2024 school year, with childcare provided. During this time, parents can tour the building, receive information about Columbus Elementary and the programming provided, and even register their children for the school year.
