Superintendent's Message for January 2026

Hello, Chargers!!

As we turn the page on the first semester and begin a new year, January offers a meaningful moment to reflect on the growth, resilience, and accomplishments of our students and staff. The past months have been filled with learning, collaboration, and dedication, and we are grateful for the continued partnership of our parents and community in supporting our schools. As we start the second semester, we do so with renewed energy, clear goals, and a shared commitment to helping every student succeed in the months ahead.

Here are just a few exciting things happening in our school district.

  1. DAY ON THE HILL

I included this information to demonstrate how hard our school board works to stay abreast of current issues affecting our school district, staff, and students.  The Day of the Hill is facilitated by Area Education Agencies (AEAs), Iowa Association of School Boards® (IASB®) & School Administrators of Iowa (SAI) for Iowa school districts’ school boards and administrators.  This advocacy event will begin at the State Historical Building in the morning with an optional brief session on talking points and Capitol advocacy logistics. Following the training, attendees will head to the Capitol to meet and network with legislators in the rotunda.  Day on the Hill Information

  1. SCHOOL CALENDAR DEVELOPMENT

It is time to begin developing next year's school calendar.  We start this process early in the school year to secure professional development providers for our district and to allow families, staff, and other stakeholders to plan accordingly.  As we develop our school calendar, our primary focus remains on educating students and maximizing meaningful learning time. Each scheduled day, break, and activity is thoughtfully planned to support academic growth, student engagement, and our students’ overall success. We appreciate your partnership as we work to create a calendar that best serves our students and school community. Please feel free to contact me with your thoughts.

  1. Middle School Interior Project

We have been planning and designing our next facility project.  The identified project includes the middle school's entryway, offices, cafeteria, and gymnasium/auditorium.  At this time, this project has not progressed to the construction bidding phase.  We are still collecting information about the building and working with the staff to finalize the design for approval by the school board. At this stage, any or all of these phases may be completed this calendar year. 10 Fold, our school’s engineering and design team will continue working with the staff, administrators, and school board to determine the project's specific features and requirements. Below are computer-generated renderings of how these areas may look upon completion.

  1. NAFA CLEAN AIR AWARD

Our maintenance staff, specifically Carter Miller, received a NAFA Clean Air Award on January 9th, 2026. The NAFA Clean Air Award recognizes our school district’s commitment to providing healthy, safe, and high-quality indoor air for students, staff, and visitors. This achievement reflects our ongoing efforts to maintain clean facilities, follow best practices in maintenance and operations, and prioritize the well-being of our school community. We are proud to receive this distinction and grateful to our facilities team and partners whose dedication helps ensure our schools remain healthy environments where students can learn and thrive.
