Welcome to the Chariton Community School District!
The mission of the Chariton Community School District is successful learning for all students! Our district is located in Chariton, in Lucas County, Iowa, and encompasses the towns of Chariton, Russell, Lucas, and Williamson. The Chariton Community School District enrolls approximately 1,300 students in PK - 12th grades. We have five attendance centers, all located in the town of Chariton. Lucas County is in south central Iowa and is a fantastic place to raise a family.

We are off to a GREAT start to the 2025-2026 school year! I hope you and your child had the opportunity to participate in our back-to-school conferences, open houses, orientations for new students to the district, and transition activities for students planned by our teachers. I believe our students entered their first day of school prepared and comfortable.
