Superintendent's Message for November 2024

Hello, Chargers!!

Happy November!  I hope this letter finds you in good health and spirits.  As Thanksgiving approaches it is important to reflect on everything in this world to be thankful for.  I hope you can spend time with people you enjoy this holiday season.  Here is the Chariton Community School news for the month.  Please visit our website for additional information, including all our school board business conducted this month.

Online registration

Our district is beginning to plan to offer online registration for the 2025-2026 school year.  In order to accomplish this parents will have to have a parent portal account set up on our Infinite Campus program.  This will need to be done regardless of whether parents take advantage of registering their students from the comfort of their own homes or come to school to register them.  We hope this is an opportunity for parents to register their children when it is convenient for them to do so.  More information about this will be available closer to the start of the 2025-2026 school year.

Consultants visit

This past month, we had consultants from Solution Tree who support us in the Professional Learning Communities  (PLC) and Capturing Kids Hearts (CKH). These consultants help us by observing our professional development initiatives and give us valuable insight and feedback on our progress. During our administrative team meetings, we reviewed the information and comments to move the district forward, utilizing our District Leadership Team. Both of these initiatives are to help our students socially and academically in our schools to succeed at high levels.

Disposal of School Vehicles

Visit our website if you want to place a sealed bid for one of our used vehicles.  There will also be an ad in the newspaper on Friday, November 15th, to help spread the news. We have cars, trucks, and vans if you are interested.  Please visit our website for more information,  https://www.charitonschools.org/files/vehichle_sale_sealed_bids_28556.pdf.  Bids are due by Thursday, November 21st by 2:00 pm,

GOOD NEWS

Peoples Bank donated $3,000 to our school lunch fund for students in need.  Karla Trenary accepted it for the district and will be responsible for distributing it as she and her staff see it appropriate.  We thank them for supporting our school, community, and families.

The Charger volleyball team raised over $1000 to fight cancer in their annual Charger Pink Out Game.  They presented Lucas County Health with a check to support this worthy cause.

Our cross-country team had a great season and finished 5th at the Iowa State Cross Country championship.  We want to publicly thank Midwest Heritage Bank and Lucas County Health Center for their generosity in supplying the team with customized water bottles and bags of treats for the trip.  Of course, our outstanding Charger Booster Club supported them as well with funding a team meal after their event.  Thanks to all these organizations for their partnership with our school.

Many of our other programs were successful as well.  Our football team participated in the state playoffs this year.  The "C" Boosters helped our football team fund a charter bus service to Carroll and Midwest Heritage Bank for supplying sack lunches.  The Charger Dance Team members earned division ratings in the ISDTA State solo contest, and our music department delivered an excellent musical.

Veterans Day Programs

Columbus Elementary and Van Allen Elementarys held Veteran's Day Celebrations on Monday, November 11th.  Below are a few pictures from the events.  The staff planned these programs, and they had student presentations as well for the visiting veterans to enjoy.  We had a great turnout of local veterans to honor for their service and dedication to our country.  We thank ALL veterans for fighting for our freedoms we enjoy today.
